  • Counselor: Redwood City Parks and Recreation (2012-2014)
    • Working primarily with 3-6 year olds at a recreational summer camp. Assisted in planning and leading activities throughout the summer including games and projects.

The Hole in the Wall Gang Camp

  • Cabin Counselor: The Hole in the Wall Gang Camp (2015-2016)
    • The Hole in the Wall Gang Camp is for children with serious illnesses that cannot attend many camps that occur during the summer because of the nature of their illnesses. Cabin counselors are assigned to a cabin with another cabin counselor and work with volunteers, parents, other full-summer counselors, and the medical team to ensure the campers' safety and well being throughout the week. Responsibilities reach far beyond the cabin in working with children as support in times of medical, behavioral, and emotional challenges.

Favorite Aspects

Favorite Aspect of Biology

In high school, I wasn't very interested in the biology course I was taking and then was exposed to anatomy & physiology and later neurobiology. It was in these courses I began to see biology's and chemistry's unmistakable importance in fully understanding our bodies. Biology also allows many different levels of analysis from the smallest cells to full organisms and systems. The expansive and condensed nature of biology absolutely, for a lack of better words, blows my mind and keeps me engaged when in class and studying extensive amounts of information and new studies.

Favorite Aspect of Computer Science

Prior to this class, I've had very little exposure to any computer science courses or coding. What I have come to understand and appreciate in terms of computer science is the ability for computers to complete tasks which normally would take a significant amount of time. Secondly, computers analyze and translate large amounts of information so we can better understand the data and make leaps in data analysis in endless areas.

Acknowledgements

  1. John Lopez and I met outside of class in case either of us had any questions in formatting our user pages, journal entry pages, or templates. We also texted in order to communicate beforehand if we had any questions prior to meeting.

While I worked with the people noted above, this individual journal entry was completed by me and not copied from another source.
