Blair Hamilton

  1. The two genes I liked were ADH1 and ADA2.
    • ADH1 was organized very cleanly. I liked how it was separated into columns as well as has a dark background color to contrast the text. I also like how the necessary information is broken up into clickable windows. It is nice to get parts of information rather than be overwhelmed with it all at once.
    • ADA2 has awesome features, such as a carousel for the images and tabs for database information. These features allow a user to easily scroll through the webpage to gain an idea about the gene as well as be able to learn more by going directly to the database, linked at the top of the page. I also liked how the DNA and RNA was separated into 10 letter segments. This allowed easy digestion of the information.

  1. I found that I liked SPT15 and ACT1 when compared to other pages.
  2. What I liked about the SPT15 page is that they had a lot of imagery on their page (near the bottom) which made it go extremely well with their text. Furthermore they integrated buttons that allowed me to click on them to "see" the sequence which made it engaging.
  3. What made ACT1 page interesting was their choice in having all their information be in tabs which you click on. I thought it was a nice change compared to others' pages but I wish it had more information and their image fit in well with the rest of their page.

  • I liked the Gene pages for ADH1 and SPT15
  • What I like about ADH1 page: I liked the background and header on this page a lot. It was nice not to have a fully white background because it is a little easier on the eyes. It was also really cool that the title/header stayed at the top of the window when you scroll down; it is both very professional and helps remind the reader what gene is being discussed. Finally, as a biochemist, I think they picked a really good image for their page (the 3D ribbon structure of the protein which ADH1 codes for).
  • What I like about SPT15 page: One thing I really like about this page is that, like the ADH1 page, the content is centered on the page. I also think that they use the button feature quite effectively. Not everyone is interested in seeing the DNA or Protein sequences, and I appreciate how space is saved by making them hidden initially. I also think the button function in this instance is superior to the accordion feature because it is nice to be able to view both sequences at once. Finally, I liked the bold divisions between sections, making navigation easy for the viewer.

  1. Two gene pages which I liked were ADH1 and CLN1.
  2. ADH1: I liked this page because it was very visually easy to look at. The gray background did not distract from the information given in the white areas. In addition, I liked the use of the feature to show or hide information. This makes it easy to get only the information wanted without having to scroll down a long page of information that you're not looking for. One more thing that I liked about this page is that the title of the page stays at the top while scrolling down. This is a cool feature especially for referencing information shown in the title, such as the gene's ID, quickly while reading something lower on the page.
  3. CLN1: I liked this page because it is also very easy to read. I like the off-white background because it does not contrast with the black letters as much as other colors would, but it is softer and easier on the eyes than a totally white background is. Another thing that I like is the columns showing information on the gene. I think this makes it easy to find information quickly, without having to scroll far. I also liked that this page put the DNA and protein sequences in red. This makes it easy to separate those from other information on the page. It also makes it easier to spot them out when looking at the page.

  1. My two favorite gene pages were SPT15 and ASP1.
  2. SPT15: I liked this page because it didn't have too much going on. It was aesthetically pleasing yet had a simple design which had a good flow. It was easy to find information about the gene and it had images that were very helpful to understanding the gene. I also liked the style of typography used which again, added to the overall ease of use of the page. The content is centered and the button tool was invoked making it easy to see both the DNA and protein sequence or hide them.
  3. ASP1: I liked the ASP1 page because it had a lot of detailed information without crowding the page. Along with SPT15, it was simple yet pleasing to the eye. The page is centered and easily navigable making it easy to learn about ASP1.I really liked the grey table which compared the info about the gene on different databases. I also enjoyed the color scheme. The best part about this page is the readability. It is easy for someone like myself with little knowledge of molecular biology to comprehend the information.

  1. My favorite gene pages were ACT1 and ASP1.
  2. For ACT1’s page, I liked the font. It was easy to read, and not too small. The simple design was pleasing and not too distracting. I also liked how the different sections were collapsible, so I could view a few things without having to scroll to look through it all. It was less overwhelming that way. Overall, the page was very clean and easy to explore.
  3. For ASP1, I liked the clear separation. The sections were easily differentiable, and the colors added a pleasing aesthetic to the page. There was good spacing between the content as well, which made it easy to read. I also liked the table, showing the differences between the different databases. It made the content clear to see for all of the databases, and it was easier to compare them this way.

  1. My favorite gene pages were ASP1 and ADA2
  2. I liked ASP1 because the page was aesthetically pleasing as well as easy to follow along. The headers had a nice colored background to clearly separate the sections. I could easily find the required information on the webpage. The page utilized some of the fancy techniques without unnecessarily overloading the webpage. The work flow was put together nicely.
  3. I liked ADA2 for the simplicity. Although there weren't as many color schematics, the protein and gene sequence was very easy to read and did not need any color to augment the webpage. Everything was concise and did not take too long to scroll down the page which I liked. The collapsible drop downs were also a clean, nice additive to the page.   1. Two gene pages I liked were ACT1 and ASP-1.
  2. I liked the ACT1 page because of the very organized structure it had. The fact that all of the categories were organized into drop-down options made it very easy to navigate the page. This way you were able to see all of the information that the page covered without having to scroll through the whole page. I also thought the way they displayed the various IDs of the gene from the different databases at the top of the page was very cool. They color coated each ID and had a description of which database it was from by hovering over the ID (which was also a link).
  3. Overall, the ASP-1 page was definitely to most visually appealing. The spacing and margins were very consistent throughout the page and made it easy to read. Plus the small splashes of color throughout the page made it much more enjoyable to peruse. The use of different tables and containers was very effective.

My favorite gene pages were ASP1 and ADH1.

  1. ASP 1 had really good use of color, which made the formatting of the page more clear and separated the data in a cohesive and aesthetically pleasing way. The page also utilized bootstrap features well as they used elements like grid and table to best represent the data and the text font for the genetic sequence was all equally sized for clearer viewing.
  2. ADH1 had good cohesive formatting of the information, and it felt very streamlined and cohesive. The use of the color blue in the background gave the website a more professional feel. They also utilized bootstraps features well to best represent the data.

  1. My favorite gene pages were ASP1 and CLN1.
  2. I thought that ASP1 had really good formatting and organization. The colorful headers were very aesthetically pleasing and helped to clearly divide each of the sections. Every aspect of the page was very easily identifiable and I also liked how the image was centered at the top.
  3. I thought that CLN1 was also a very good page. I liked how all the information was contained in the yellow box because it helped with organization and division of each of the sections. It also made it so that the readers would not be overwhelmed when looking at all of the text.

  1. My favorite gene pages were CLN1 and SPT15.
  2. CLN1 uses a cream colored background, which makes the page easier to read. It also make the page look more put together, as it is set with a border and then placed on the white page. It looks more engaging, and less like text was dumped onto a page.
  3. SPT15 is nice because of the organization of the text. I like the various headers and I like being introduced with a question and then a summary. It makes the information a lot easier to grasp. Also, if you are looking for something specific, you would have an easy time finding it on this page. I enjoyed the colorful graphics that were chosen, as well.

  1. I liked the the gene pages for ASP1 and ACT1.
  2. The gene page for ACT1 is nicely organized and not too cluttered. I especially like the color coated gene ID's and how when you mouse over them, it tells you the name of the database it is linked to. I also like the accordion style used to condense the information into tabs so you can only view what you want to view, without being distracted by the other information on the page.
  3. The gene page for ASP1 is also nicely organized which I like. It does not use the accordion structure but they still managed to present the information to not look cluttered. The colors used on the page make it more engaging and exciting to read. I also like the picture chosen and it's placement.

  1. My favorite gene pages were ACT1 and ASP1
  2. The collapsed format and colored text tie the page for ACT1 together extremely well. It's easy to pick out the information that one wants to see, and in general it seems like some thought was put into the format of the webpage.
  3. The colored headers of the various sections and gracious padding both come together and make the page for ASP1 feel very informative. It doesn't feel like the information is being thrown at me and seems to be somewhat inviting to read.

  2. For CLN1, I really liked the beige background on the web page, for me it really made the whole page quite aesthetically pleasing.
    The information was substantial, well organized, and easy to find as well.
  3. For SPT15, I'm sure I'm a little biased (because I coded it xP) but I really like the use of the buttons for the protein and nucleotide sequences because It saves so much space.
    I also liked the formatting and spacing because it satisfies my obsessive compulsive disorder.

  1. Out of the pages presented, my favorites were ADH1 and ASP1.
  2. Despite one of the information cards skewing to the right, I think that ADH1 is colorful, easy to read, and provides a very nice accordion for getting specific information while providing basic access to other common parts like the summary and XML.
  3. ASP1 has its information organized in a very neat format that is easy to read and displays its information nicely. In addition, the page is also colorful without being too flashy.

  1. My favorite two pages were ASP1 and BRO1.
  2. ASP1 was very aesthetically pleasing. Although I don't fully agree with the color choices, having the header for each section highlighted in a different color made it very easy to distinguish where one section finished and the next started.
  3. I agree with many of the style choices of the BRO1 page. It is styled very cleanly, with all of the information laid out very neatly which makes it very easy to read all of the material.
