Personal Interests/ Hobbies

I enjoy spending time with family and going on vacation. My next dream destination is Greece. Traveling is one of the greatest experiences I have. I'm able to meet new people, try new things, and especially new cultures. I also enjoy reading at the beach, but I'm not too excited about the ocean. I'm actually quite scared of the ocean. Exploring the city I'm in is always fun, especially when done with friends. Since coming to LMU from the Bay Area I've been able to see a lot of different parts of southern California. The incredible blending of different cultures, including my own Eritrean culture being so prominent here, is always fun to experience. I look forward to learning, seeing, and experiencing more in my last few months at LMU.

What is your favorite aspect of Biology and why?

Biology is such a broad study that allows me to learn about all types of living things. My favorite aspect of Biology is understanding how adaptation has been done in the past and how its effects helped organisms survive in their current environment. I want to learn more about Climate Change and how organisms have to respond to its effects. From changes in ocean acidity to melting glaciers, how will life respond to the changes? Of course so far we have seen negative responses, with marine life suffering from exposure to plastic to forrest fires due to extreme heat. Will the necessary changes be made? Studying biology has made me more aware of the environment and our roles in helping it thrive. From Urban Ecology lab to physiology all of these different topics fit under the study of biology and are in a way connected. How living things interact with one another is essential to everyday functions.

What is your favorite aspect of computer science and why?

I'm not too aware of computer science. But from what I have been told I believe my favorite aspect is with coding. It's clear technology has become a great part of society. It is integrated into almost every field of work from hospitals to police departments to everyday use kept in our pockets and on our wrists. Computer science is becoming an incredibly important field, as skilled people will be needed to help with the technology boost we have had. My favorite aspect is coding because of its ability to create software, apps, etc. that can positively benefit the general public. I have heard stories of apps detecting spikes in blood pressure that could be life saving for the user. That is simply incredible. Something that could not have been done 20 years ago is now capable of saving a life. My understanding of computer science is slim, I even struggled with creating this wiki page. But I believe this course will help me become more comfortable with the technology.
