Week 1 Feedback

Note the Friday midnight deadline. Catch up when you can—demonstrate that you can do everything listed in the Wiki Checklist.

Week 1 Follow-up Feedback

Good job catching up! All is well with a handful of comments on information completeness:

  • You included your past graduation year, but how about the expected year for your current major? Don’t worry, you won’t be jinxing yourself ;-)
  • You don’t have entries for upper division courses nor research work. It is understandable, based on where you are right now, that you might not have these. But to be sure that this really is the case and that you didn’t just forget to include these, make sure to say “none” or “n/a” under these headings.
  • No email about questions or concerns yet—same as above, please send a quick “none” anyway just so we know that you did not forget.
  • Note, you don’t need, and actually don’t want, line breaks within a wiki paragraph. Take out the line breaks in your Personal Interests section to see the difference.
  • You’ve created a template but haven’t used it. Make sure you do (curly braces). As a suggestion, you might want to relabel your assignment links as “Week 1,” “Week 2,” etc.—those will pile up fast!

Week 2 Journal Feedback

  • Please make sure that you get on track with submitting your assignments on time. Points were deducted from this week's assignment because it was late. As was discussed in class today, you have the opportunity to earn back the points you missed by making the corrections requested on the Week 3 Assignment page and the corrections requested below. The corrections are due by midnight on Friday, September 20 (thursday night/friday morning).
  • Your translations were correct for the +1, +2, and +3 frames, but were really off for the -1, -2, -3 frames. I suspect that you translated in the wrong direction (3' to 5') or did not complement the sequence properly. Use the ExPaSY tool listed on the Week 3 Assignment page to see the correct translation and to figure out what went wrong.
  • You did not link to the Week 2 Assignment page from your user page as was requested in the directions. If you add the link to your template and then use your template there, you will automatically have the links required for future assignments.
  • The Nirenberg article is a memoir by the author as opposed to expository text, so it does tend to wander. To fully understand it would require some additional background in biology/biochemistry. I'd be happy to talk further with you about it if you wanted.
  • I also answered your question on my user talk page.

Week 3 Feedback

  • Thank you for getting a little bit of work in by the deadline that you set for yourself.
  • Good to hear that you succeeded in exerting control of your file extensions.
  • Your individual journal page does not demonstrate any sed or match/grep/wc skills—understandably so because of missed classes. Let’s see if we can catch you up with some face-to-face time.
  • Your links across pages are quite thorough and complete! The anticipated links for pages not yet created are also a nice move. A little custom formatting may be needed through for optimal readability and navigability.

Let’s try to find some time to get you caught up. Talk to me so we can make arrangements.
