EGFR Protein

This protein is used in a cascade sequence and acts as a receptor protein in that pathway. It is also present in the lungs when cancer is present. It plays a role in phosphorylation by acting as an activator protein. This protein is a membrane bound protein which means it is present in all membranes of both the organelle in the cell as well as the cellular envelope. This protein also plays a role in tyrosine kinase receptor signalling activity as well as actin and ATP binding processes.

1.)What was the purpose of this exercise?

  • The purpose of this exercise is to learn how to navigate the uniprot web database as well as to discover the function of the epidermal growth factor by using it as an example

2.)What did I learn from this exercise? I learned how to navigate the website and to find the functionality and classification system of proteins.

3.)What did I not understand (yet) about this exercise? I did not fully understand the numbers associated with the proteins as well as a lot of the terms used in the description of the proteins
