-To avoid getting lost from original page, should open links in new windows, rather than just clicking.
-had trouble finding info on the EMBL, InterPro, etc, as those specific names were not visible
Features:
-features included different regions, different sites, and amino acid modifications of the protein

EGFR Protein Paragraph:

Epidermal Growth Factor Receptor is a receptor protein that acts as a cascading element to stimulate a series of cellular response. It can also act as an activator and a key player in phosphorylating other proteins. Some other cellular functions include being a kinase, transferase, and being involved with development. It is a membrane-bound protein, that is within the cell membrane, nucleus membrane, endosome membrane, etc. EGFR is also highly involved in the accumulation of cancerous cells in the lungs when it becomes malignant.

Reflection Questions

  • What was the purpose of this exercise?

This exercise was intended to make navigating database information easier, along with becoming more familiar with the UniProt database itself. It was also good practice to read through information, follow directions, and interpret data that was presented in the database.

  • What did I learn from this exercise?

I definitely feel more comfortable navigating through a database after going through the information and realizing what it is that each section/page is telling me.

  • What did I not understand (yet) about this exercise?

At first it seemed like the chapter was leading me in a false direction, since finding a lot of the information was really difficult. I found most of the information while navigating the site on my own. There were also a lot of terminologies that I was unfamiliar with in the descriptions of the protein.
