Electronic Journal

This week, Arash and I worked on Coder Milestones 0-4. As Arash states on his assignment page, "We set up all the necessary files on our computers as according to milestones 0-3". We talked about some designs for the website, and decided to finish them over the thanksgiving break. I will be sending him sketches, and he will help me with any coding questions/GitHub questions that I have.

Milestone 0

  1. Our Week 11 journal club presentation. The powerpoint can be found here: File:Data Driven Design.zip

Milestone 1

  1. This portion required our individual computers had the correct software to complete the project.
  2. Arash helped me solve the software onto my computer.
  • Node.js 8.4.0
  • Code-savvy editor (Atom)
  • Web browser with developer tools (Chrome)
  • git version control software
  • curl command

Milestone 2

  1. This portion required us to fork the open source GRNsight project. (Arash completed this, and then explained it to me)
  2. I created a GItHub account, as I did not previously have one. (My user is nicolekal)
  3. Blair added me to the coder group.
  4. The fork Arash created is called page-design.
  5. The fork is currently under Arash's GitHub account: arashlari.

Milestone 3

  1. For this part of the assignment, we needed to download the project code from GitHub.
  2. We followed these instructions: instructions in the GRNsight wiki
  3. We performed "git clone" to acquire the files, "cd" into the appropriate folder on our personal computers, and "git checkout" to the branch we were assigned to.

Milestone 4

  1. We looked at what the most liked pages were from the previous assignment and read over everyone's explanations. I briefly sketched out ideas and talked about color with Arash, but we will be completing this over Thanksgiving break.
  2. I focused on the aesthetic elements, because I am a Studio Arts major. Arash states on his page that he, "focused on how I would use bootstrap to implement everything while still relaying the relevant technical information to Nicole".
